Manditory!! Most states require it. Why doesn't California?

I support requiring voters to present a valid government-issued photo identification before casting a ballot. I believe verifying a voter’s identity is a reasonable step that can help protect the integrity of the election process and provide greater confidence in our voting system.

I'm not personally into guns. But I believe in individual constitutional rights....including the right to bear arms. I don't have an answer for this, but the tragadies we are witnessing thoughout the country on a regular basis are heartbreaking. A creative solution needs to be put in place. What it is, I don't know.

I interpret the Second Amendment as protecting an individual’s right to keep and bear arms, including for the lawful defense of oneself, one’s family, home, and property. I also support reasonable firearm regulations, including minimum-age requirements, criminal background checks and fingerprinting prior to possession, demonstrated knowledge of firearm safety and proper handling, and the establishment of a national firearms database.

We as a city council voted to not allow dispensaries in our city. This ban is enforced by our code enforcement team. But residents can certainly receive deliveries from outside our city limits.

I support allowing properly licensed and regulated recreational marijuana dispensaries to operate within city limits. Adult-use cannabis is legal in California, and I believe cities should establish responsible local regulations governing its sale and operation. Licensed dispensaries can also generate additional tax revenue for city services. Cannabis has both adult recreational and medicinal uses, and legal businesses should be held to appropriate standards regarding location, safety, security, and compliance.

Both. We are currently in a two year budget deficit but have balanced our current budget from our reserves (which is why they are there). We are historically a lean city, so we tend to live within our means vs spending on projects and employee counts when times are good. The City is currently pushing a 1 cent sale tax increase to fund our ability to pay bills for the long term. We are the lowest in the region at 7.75%. If we don't pass that measure, our reserves will be drawn down in approx 6 years...due to significant, across the board, out of control increases in expenses. Example, our Sheriff's contract has gone up $5 million over the past four years. Where does the money come from? Our property taxes should be our saving grace, but its not. When we became a city 35 years ago, we were told by LAFCO that we would receive only 4% of our property taxes. Long term, we knew that would not sustain us. Chaffey JC also receives 4% of our property taxes. What is wrong with this picture?

If faced with a budget deficit, my first step would be to conduct a comprehensive review of the city’s expenditure and revenues to identify inefficiencies, unnecessary spending, and opportunities to strengthen revenue. I would favor a zero-based budgeting approach and require departments to justify expenditure before considering the use of city reserves or increasing taxes. Tax increases should not be the first response to a budget shortfall.

As a 20 year council member, I can attest that we HAVE fostered that culture. Our family culture is unmatched in the region...which translates to the culture you are refering to. What are we known for in the region...parks, youth activities and churches? Those all translate to a family focused culture.

I would work with community leaders, healthcare professionals, nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, and residents to strengthen education, support services, and resources for mothers, babies, children, and families. This issue is also personal to me. My daughter Janelle faced significant challenges from conception through birth, and today she is preparing to celebrate her 13th birthday. That experience reinforced for me the importance of supporting children and families throughout every stage of life.

If I recall, that amendment passed by a large margin. This is not an issue that would ever come before the city council. I have good friends in town who are same sex and married. And I value their friendship. It's not my cup of tea, but I support my friends and their legal decision.

I believe consenting adults should have the right to marry and to build their lives in a loving, safe, and private manner. As someone in an interracial marriage, I understand personally the importance of the freedom to marry the person you love. I respect that people may hold different religious and personal beliefs regarding marriage. My Christian faith teaches me the importance of demonstrating love, dignity, and respect toward others, including those whose beliefs or life choices may differ from my own.

As a sitting city council member, I voted to allow a beginning prayer many, many years ago. Our city hall council chambers wall proudly displays -In God We Trust!!

As a Christian, I support the tradition of allowing an invocation or prayer at the beginning of city council meetings. At the same time, I recognize that our community includes people from different faith traditions as well as individuals who may not have a religious affiliation. I believe this tradition should be conducted in a manner that is respectful of the diverse beliefs represented within the community.
