As State Treasurer, I will have a seat at some of California’s most important financial tables, and I will never forget that I am there representing the people of California. My priorities will be accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship. On CalPERS and CalSTRS, I will focus on protecting retirement funds and making investment decisions based on sound financial principles—not political agendas. On housing boards, I will ask where the money is going, what each project costs, who benefits, and whether taxpayers are getting the results they were promised. On bond committees, I will remember that borrowed money is not free money. Today’s debt can become our children’s and grandchildren’s burden tomorrow. Again, my faith teaches me to be a good steward of what has been entrusted to me. I will ask the difficult questions, demand transparency, and always remember: this is the people’s money and our children’s future.
