Voter ID

Share your view on the 2026 California ballot proposition that requires voters to show a government-issued photo identification to vote.

I am in favor of it and canvassed for signatures. Part 1 is to push the county registrars to resume cleansing the voter roles, which seems to have stopped during Covid. Part 2 is to require the last 4 digits of an ID of the voter's choice, both in the registration data and shown by the voter. 7 different IDs are listed, with the 7th being one assigned just for voting should the voter prefer. To think that voters cannot get an ID is insulting to voters. Even if one is lost, provisional ballots are available, as they always have been. Voter ID is a return to the way California used to do their elections Voter ID also reinforces 100 Mail-In voting. By removing the element of fraud around signature forgery, the integrity of mail-in voting is improved and mail-in becomes less likely to be cancelled.

Budget

Share your views on California's budget shortfalls and mounting debt. Do you favor cutting spending, raising taxes, or a mix of both to achieve fiscal responsibility?

People elected to both legislative chambers have a duty to the voters to reach a balance budget. They must reduce spending when the Governor's preliminary budget is too high. The current model of leaving a large deficit while hoping for ballot tax increases is a betrayal of the voter. California historically has taken 8-9% of its economy to operate the government. Now, that has reached about 12.5%, far too high. Californians are struggling with taxes and cost of living, mostly due to housing shortages caused by regulatory barriers. I will push for the gas tax and the diesel tax to be eliminated and to have sales tax removed for fuel purchases.I will push for income tax based General Fund money to pay for schooll buildings, which will reduce or eliminate the need for high-tax, high-rent school bonds. To balance the budget then would take some priority setting efforts, such as shutting down abusive regulatory agencies.

Israel

Share your view on America's support for Israel.

Our worldwide foreign policy and trade policy support should be focused on Mexico first, Canada second, Israel third. All three are critical to democracy on the planet. I firmly believe that without Israel, there would be a collapsed Middle East with the end of several sovereign nations in the area. Having said that, we do also need to influence Israel's leadership to protect Arab areas of the West Bank. Our current actions related to Iran and ending its reign of terror in the Middle East will end up helping Arabs throughout the area.

Border

What is your view of President Donald Trump's measures to enhance border security?
Did not answer
No response was submitted for this question.
A nation with borders is not a nation. We must have strong borders, including points of arrival such as ports and airports. We had a somewhat porous and informal border with Canada and Mexico, which wasn't great but was functioning pretty well for decades. The prior administration blew that up and caused an army of unknown people to move into our sovereign territory. President Trump should be praised for closing the border and then for attempting to round up violent criminals from around the planet. No one demographic suffered more from the prior administration's failure than the Hispanic population. They were victimized by reputation, by job loss, and by spiking costs of living. Second to them, but only barely were lower income people throughout America. President Trump's border actions have been to the great benefit of these people.

Marriage

In 2024, Californians voted to amend the state Constitution to establish marriage as a fundamental right regardless of sex. What is your view on this amendment?
Did not answer
No response was submitted for this question.
It should have been unnecessary. When California passed that amendment, it put itself as having power to grant such a right. It does not have that right. Each individual has certain human rights by birth, one of which is marriage by choice. California usurped that with its amendment. It put controls and therefore limitations on that right. The only role that any government should play in this issue is to enforce spousal rights, to recognize marriages in other jurisdictions, and to document actual marriages in the legal system.

Abortion

After the Supreme Court returned abortion policymaking to the states, do you believe that is the correct level of government to decide this issue, or should Congress or the Constitution establish a national standard?

Similar answer to question 5. No government should put itself in the role of granting a right that exists by birth. In this case, it is the right of the woman to control her own body. Many of us might want a pregnant woman to make decisions a certain way. We must allow the pregnant woman to make her wn decisions in her way. I agree with the SCOTUS decision and hope that each State will take a simillar stance, that being the government should not approve or deny the woman's right to decide.

Parental Rights

What is your view of the Supreme Court’s decision supporting a parents’ right to know about their child’s gender issues at school?
Did not answer
No response was submitted for this question.
A child is being raised by its parents, is subject to the control of its parents, and the parents have control and responsibility to how the child grows up. Of course, legal boundaries must be defined and do exist. Part of the child growing up is an education. When the parents enroll their child into school, they do not give up their rights as parents. The child is still their child. The school must not intervene between the child and the parents, except in those very narrowly defined legal areas. The Mirabelli decision was clear. It was correct.

Vaccines

What is your view of California's vaccine mandate for public school students?
Did not answer
No response was submitted for this question.
At this point, it is unclear to me what the enrollment rules should be. Just as I said in question 7, the ultimate decision is to made by the parents. If a public school requires a vaccine, does that interfere with a child's right to a public education? I think so. Does that lead to a school becoming a sick bed? Maybe so, which also interferes with the child's right to a public education. Perhaps we have reached the point where many if not all the enrollment requirements need to be dropped to see if they actually have been making a difference. Most parents will still vaccinate. Those that won't might already be getting waivers. Our school sytems are in disarray and very poorly functioning. What I witnessed in my two son's schooling, especially in middle and high school (at highly rated schools) would never have been allowed when I was that age. We need to rethink our entire education system.
